SexComa Fine Art Poster Attracts Unprecedented Attention
By Christian Bain

When the limited-edition SexComa fine art poster promoting the Queer Men's Erotic Art Workshop's July 2001 exhibition was still being hand printed by the labor-intensive silk-screen process, more than one person wondered if it would even be able to recoup its costs. They needn't have worried - instead of losing money, the Workshop's first venture into fine art poster publishing has been a smashing success.

Profits from the poster, featuring a sexually inviting sailor clad only in a sailor cap and and jock strap, modelled by Robert Green and drawn by renowned erotic illustrator Richard Rosenfeld, were more than double the printing and production costs, netting several thousand dollars that were donated to the Leslie-Lohman Gay Art Foundation.

The collorfully erotic poster also achieved a certain level of critical acclaim when the Chisholm Larsson Gallery purchased ten percent of the 100-copy edition, saying that it was the first time they had seen a fine art poster used for advertising since the classic French posters of Picasso, Matisse and Cocteau. Raymond Dragon, the former Colt model and fashion icon displayed three copies in his store's windows during the final month before its closing. Another copy continues to hang in Chelsea's popular gay hangout, The Dish restaurant.
In fact, with 70% of the edition sold, it has already become a collector's item. A limited number of copies are currently available from the Gallery for $100 for Foundation members and $115 for non-members. For additional information contact Foundation Director Wayne Snellen at (212) 673-7007.

The second poster in the series, entitled Dirty Little Drawings, will commemorate an exhibition of the same name which opens Thursday, May 1, 2003. This special three-day event will offer small (5.5" by 5.5") works priced for the aspiring collector. All of the works, created by Workshop artists working from our stable of sexy models, will be priced at $49.99.

Robert Fontinelli, a regular member of the Wednesday night workshop, has been selected to create the poster. The entire signed and numbered edition will be limited to 100 copies, with an additional number of proofs. We are honored once again to be working with master printer Nenad Bozic of NEBO Fine
Art Printing.

Purchasing a poster or collecting the entire suite is a tangible way to express your support for the continuing community of artists that has grown up around the Queer Men's Erotic Art Workshop. The print is available for prepublication purchase.
