The Paintings of Michael Rogovsky "Paintings that demand attention and must be seen" is what the Provincetown newspaper wrote upon reviewing the paintings of Michael Rogovsky when he first exhibited his male nudes in Provincetown. Rogovsky's male nudes have a breadth of execution that celebrates the expressive combination of brush stroke and color in the creation of the male image. These paintings investigate the figure and recreate the male nude with rich color and energetic brush strokes; he paints from the shoulder. Michael Rogovsky was painting and exhibiting his male nudes when such imagery was rare in a gallery. One of his paintings was even removed from a store front window by the police almost 20 years ago. It created a controversy with everyone from a famed art historian to a born and bred Provincetown matron vehemently defending or demonizing the exhibition of a male nude painting in a window for all to see. Michael Rogovsky establishes the male nude on canvas with vigorous brush strokes and expressive content that goes beyond a mere depiction or exaggeration of genitals. His paintings are imbued with all of the vitality and freshness and execution that makes a painting a work of art. Rogovsky's paintings are strong and appeal to the bold collector who isn't intimidated by the virility of a male nude placed before him to be admired and perhaps desired. Rogovsky has had
the privilege of having his work exhibited at The Leslie-Lohman Gay
Art Foundation and now there is a Rogovsky in the permanent collection.
