The
Museum of Queer Visual Culture The
Queer Caucus for Art and CLAGS (CUNY Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies)
is sponsoring InterseXions, a two-day conference on the status of gay
art and artists in the 21st Century. Visual artists, historians, critics
and curators with an interest in queer arts from the United States and
around the world will converge on the CUNY Graduate Center in New York
on Fri. Nov.12 and Sat. Nov. 13 for the event. LLGAF will be a partial
sponsor. We have also been invited to participate. To
enliven the conference, artists associated with The Foundation will
create a scale model fantasy museum devoted to celebrating the accomplishments
of Queer artists and culture. Gay and lesbians artists (and art lovers)
are invited to create an individual gallery diorama illustrating a chosen
aspect of queer visual cultural, i.e., queer artists-the famous and
forgotten (Da Vinci, Eakins, Warhol, Catherine Opie); queer driven movements
(Pop Art); aspects of broad cultural influence in the fields of fine
art, theater, dance, film, design, fashion and advertising; or political
and social issues surrounding queer visual art (censorship, confiscation
and destruction of art, and creating queer art in the closet.) Artists
can create single or multiple rooms (additional boxes are available.)
Each will be assembled with other rooms to form the completed museum
model-The Museum of Queer Visual Culture. Here's
what you do: 1) Pickup a box at LLGAF. Boxes measure 13"w x 8"h
x 6"d (open or viewed on 13" x 8" side.) 2) Choose an
artist or theme and notify LLGAF. 3) Construct your diorama. 4) Deliver
your submission with your submission form to LLGAF by Saturday Nov.
6, 2004 6pm. The
prospectus for The Museum of Queer Visual Culture may be download from
