Marry
Me Marry
Me is an upcoming exhibition of illuminated marriage proposals by lesbians,
scheduled to run November12 through December 18, 2004. In this politically
heated climate, LLGAF is mounting this exhibition to address the issues
surrounding the subject of gay marriage. The work will speak directly
to the lesbian sensibility of relationships and marriage and will be
decorative, political, social, erotic, romantic, and/or satiric in content.
In addition, all media is being encouraged for this show. The
proposals will be addressed to either imaginary or real people and may
contain text. The work will include the the 5''x7'' proposal and accompanying
envelope. In
an attempt to attract, establish, and expand its collection of art by
and for lesbian artists, all work will be donated to the LLGAF and sold
via silent auction to benefit the LLGAF Lesbian Art Purchase Fund. Each
piece will be sold for a base price of $69. One lucky piece will be
selected by the Lesbian Steeering Committee as "Most Creative of
Show," and become a LLGAF editioned postcard. The
opening reception is Friday November 12th from 6-9pm. Some of the evening's
sponsors will include GO NYC magazine and Starlite, some of the most
popular names in lesbian nightlife. The work will be on display in Trivero
Hall at the Leslie-Lohman Gallery. LLGAF
is accepting submissions for the show now. All work must be received
in-house by October 23, 2004. If submitting work, please include a brief
bio, exhibition resume, and artist statement, under separate cover.
For full details, please refer to the prospectus, which is available
online: http://www.leslielohman.org/prospectuses.MarryMe.htm. The
show will run through December 18, 2004. Gallery hours are Tues. through
Sat. 1-6pm. LLGAF is looking forward to this opportunity to host this
lesbian exclusive show and generate a stronger lesbian presence throughout
the gallery.
