About the Honorees

BARBARA HAMMER is an American feminist artist known as a pioneer in experimental film. BARBARA HAMMER: Evidentiary Bodies, opening at the Leslie-Lohman Museum in October, is a comprehensive survey exhibition of this pioneering visual artist and filmmaker Barbara Hammer featuring her work from the past 50 years. It will look at the multiplicity of Hammer’s praxis and her resonating impact on lesbian art and film and its implication to queer art herstory.

CHARLES W. LESLIE is the co-founder of the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art. He is also a major philanthropist who continues to support several other LGBTQ organizations including GMHC, The LGBT Center, SAGE, and the Tyler Clementi Foundation.
