| The Leslie/Lohman
Gay Art Foundation (LLGAF) houses a permanent collection of 2500+ works
ranging from painting and drawing to photography, sculpture and prints.
The core group of works were collected by the founders, J. Frederic Lohman,
ASID, and Charles W. Leslie. Mr. Leslie states that LLGAF's mission is
"to locate, rescue, and preserve works of gay art that are endangered
because of societal sexual prejudice" — a mission he places "in the category
of what I did for love" for "the art that dare not speak its name." Fritz
Lohman once said, "I was born to get this work out of the closet and onto
the walls."
The collection is constantly being expanded through gifts, donations, foundation purchases and by the yearly, "Founders' Purchase Award" (see the Founders Room).
