George Dudley 1951 - 1993
American, painter

George Dudley was the first Director of the Leslie/Lohman Gay Art Foundation beginning in 1990 until his death in 1993 of complications due to AIDS. Dudley was born in Hobbs, N.M. and grew up in Columbus, Ga. He received his education at the Cleveland Institute of Art and the Maryland Institute of Art. He was founder of, The Night of a Thousand Gowns, a well known fundraiser for AIDS organizations as well as founder of the American Postcard Company. As an artist he produced many paintings, photographs and prints almost always relating to the gay experience.
