INTRODUCTION
There is one evening session each week managed on alternate weeks by Rob Hugh Rosen and by Harvey Redding. These two manage the studio sessions independently, but in similar ways, and generally with a different model each week. Normally the sessions are on Wednesdays or Thursdays. The sessions last three hours and usually consist of twenty minute poses with appropriate breaks. Typically, there are no long poses and the models are posed in sexually provocative ways. These are not classes, and are not meant for beginners. Experience in drawing from life is needed. Artists accepted for the Erotic Drawing Studio will receive weekly email announcements and can make reservations by email. To attend, one should first call Rob Rosen at The Leslie/Lohman Gallery: 212-431-2609.
We draw from 7pm - 10pm in the Leslie/Lohman Basement Annex. The address is 127-B Prince Street between West Broadway and Wooster, close to the corner of Wooster Street. Look for the stairs in the sidewalk going down to the basement. Come a little early to get a good spot. We encourage the artists not to run off right at 10, but to stay and look at each other's work. We provide folding chairs, and a few easels are available, but just a few. Bring your own art materials and a small drawing board that can be balanced in your lap.
The usual studio fee is $20, but members of the Foundation pay $15. Occasionally we have two models and then the fee is higher. We serve wine and seltzer and cheese and crackers during the breaks. Most of the artists take turns bringing other additional snacks to add to the festivities, such as fruit, nuts, chips, etc.
THE EROTIC DRAWING STUDIO HAS SIX RULES.
1. Attendance is by reservation only.
2. If you do not cancel your reservation on time and do not show up, you are responsible for the studio fee. There are NO exceptions to this rule.
3. No one may speak to the model, and there is to be no interaction between the artists and the model, when the model is ON the model stand, except the one in charge of directing the pose.
4. If an artist finds the model so alluring that he cannot concentrate on drawing, he may not simply sit and gape. He MUST at least PRETEND to draw.
5. Each artist must clean up after himself, i.e., if you have left pencil shavings on the floor, please sweep them up.
6. Photography is not permitted unless a special prior arrangement is made with the studio director and the model.
The Leslie/Lohman Erotic Art Studio developed out of the Queer Men's Erotic Drawing Workshop.
